What is the Bluebell Circuit?

The Bluebell Circuit is a half-mile walking circuit linking together a series of existing routes and consisting of paths and a footbridge on the western edge of Two Mile Ash.

This 750m recreational way is a major asset for Two Mile Ash, providing access to Parks Trust land, enhanced opportunities for enjoying nature and broadening the range of local walks available to us all.

A long ‘green ride’ pathway is divided into two by a deep stream channel and wooded areas that were rendered inaccessible by brambles and other undergrowth. Our project has provided an 11m long footbridge to cross the stream, and three log and chippings pathways to complete the Circuit.

The work to create the Circuit has been done in partnership with the landholders Milton Keynes Parks Trust who provided the labour to build the bridge superstructure. TMAEG funded the materials (from a separate grant) and, separately built the bridge foundations.

With its distinctive ‘eco areas’ plus its seasonal changes, and the scope that it will offer for a daily ten-minute stroll, we expect this new route to be popular through the year. Through the Bluebell Circuit, TMA residents and other visitors are able to experience two woodlands – one poplar dominated, the other by Norway Maples – the green ride lined by hedgerows on either side and two landscaped ‘jitties’ connecting the adjacent housing areas.

The stream crossing site with the long footbridge (shown below) and the water below is itself a special feature. In Spring users can enjoy a bluebell woodland that has been hidden to most of us for several decades. And there will be much other wildlife to view at all times of the year.

TMAEG will seek to manage the route in order to maximise its biodiversity, for example through the creation of openings/glades in which wildflowers, butterflies and other insects can flourish. With our experienced volunteer teams we will also be able to assist with the management of the woodland generally.

Think carefully about your footwear if you want to walk the Circuit.  In wet weather some areas can be muddy,  so we advise tough shoes or walking boots.

How did it happen?
