Safeguarding of Children and Young People Policy

TMAEG welcomes the support of families and young people from within the TMA area, with the following guidelines adhered to at all times.

Children under the age of 16 must be able to behave safely and appropriately at all times, paying attention to safety briefings and following instructions. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian age 18+ and supervised by their adult at all times. This is essential for the safeguarding of any children and to ensure the safety of all other TMAEG volunteers. The parent/guardian is responsible for their child at all times.

There are occasions when a specific project may be considered high risk by the project leader(s) and not appropriate for children to be involved with. On such occasions, children will be asked not to join in these activities.

Young people aged 16 and 17 years can be involved without adult supervision, with the written permission of a parent or guardian. A contact number must also be provided by the consenting adult.

In cases of projects involving school children during school hours, the school staff will be responsible for the safeguarding of their group. Appropriate risk assessments will be carried out by school staff in conjunction with the project leader(s).

TMAEG has a zero-tolerance of abuse of children and young people wherever it occurs or whoever is responsible.

This updated policy has been approved by the TMAEG committee on 2nd April 2026 and will presented at the AGM in September 2026 to be endorsed.
